9AM-12PM Conflict Management

Coaching Manitoba’s Shannon Gander will lead this workshop. The Managing Conflict module will allow you to:

  • identify common sources of conflict in sport;
  • determine which individuals or groups are most likely to find themselves in situations involving conflict;
  • learn important skills that will help you prevent and solve conflict resulting from misinformation, miscommunication or misunderstanding;
  • develop skills that will empower you to listen and speak effectively in conflict situations while maintaining positive relationships with athletes, parents, officials and other coaches.

This course is an NCCP module and coaches will receive credit for completing this module.

1-3PM Injury Prevention

Dr. Dean Kriellaars is Associate Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, School of Medical Rehabilitation in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Dean works in rehabilitation and high-performance sport and is at the forefront of the Physical Literacy movement. Dr. Dean has experience working with many groups including PHE Canada and Cirque du Soleil. Coaches will not want to miss out on learning best practices for injury prevention in their gymnasts.

 

3-4:15 Coaching Techniques

Emily Richard is a level 3 coach who spent the month of July in Bulgaria learning from one of the top coaches in the country, Svetlana Yurieva. Her experience at the training camp exposed her to the most recent techniques in teaching and training all aspects of rhythmic gymnastics. Coaches attending this session will get an insight to training methods used in Bulgaria and updates on skills and coaching techniques.
