Celebrating Excellence: Zdravka Tchonkova Named Konica Minolta Official of the Year

We are thrilled to announce that our Executive Director – Zdravka Tchonkova, has been honoured as the Konica Minolta Official of the Year. From officiating on the world stage to shaping technical guidelines here in Manitoba, Zdravka’s expertise and dedication continue to elevate rhythmic gymnastics in Manitoba and across Canada.

“Zdravka Tchonkova, who was born in Varna, Bulgaria and moved to Winnipeg in 1989, is one of Canada’s top international rhythmic gymnastics judges and a driving force behind the sport’s growth in Manitoba. In 2025, Zdravka successfully completed the FIG Continental Judges’ Course, which allows her to hold Brevet 2 license and officiate nationally and internationally for the current Olympic cycle of 2025-2028.

She represented Canada at major international events, including the Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, the FISU World University Games in Germany, and the Grand Prix in Marbella, Spain. Domestically, she officiated at key competitions such as the Canadian Championships, Elite Canada, and Western Regional Championships, while also playing a leading role across numerous provincial events.

Beyond judging, Zdravka is deeply committed to athlete and coach development. She serves as a judge consultant at national and international training camps and is actively involved in multiple committees with Gymnastics Canada and Rhythmic Gymnastics Manitoba. She has also contributed to the development of Canada’s technical guidelines for domestic competition, bringing valuable judging insight to the program.

Zdravka’s impact extends far beyond competition, as she continues to elevate the standard of rhythmic gymnastics through her leadership, mentorship, and commitment to safe sport. Her dedication and expertise have made a lasting impact on the sport in Manitoba and across Canada, and her contributions continue to inspire athletes, coaches, and officials alike.”
