Senior athlete Kaedyn Lashley, along with her coach Zdravka Tchonkova, took part in the National Team camp following the 2017 Elite Canada. The camp featured experts Dr. Judy Goss, Agnes Makowski, Jen Sygo and Daniela Arendasova who worked with the junior and senior national rhythmic teams.
Manitoba successful at Elite Canada
The HPTC International FIG Junior Group, composed of Anna Belle Richards, Alexandra Yarema, Alexys Purdie, Anastasia Kurakin and Samantha Pfeil, took the All-Around and 5 Ropes title at Elite Canada. They narrowly beat the Junior Group from Adagio by 1.75 points (HPTCI – 46.650; Adagio – 44.900) in the combined competition to take the Elite Canada title.
In the senior competition, Kaedyn Lashley finished 6th All-Around in the combined competition and had top- 8 finishes in Ball – 6th, Clubs – 5th, and Ribbon – 7th. Kaedyn, a member of the Canadian National Team will remain in Markham for a Gymnastics Canada National Team camp. The Senior All-Around title went to Carmen Whelan of Silhouettes of York in Ontario.
In her first year of eligibility in the Junior category, Samantha Pfeil finished 11th in a field of 73 Junior gymnasts in competition “A” and was named to the High-Performance category, where she will compete for 2017. Samantha finished 14th in the combined competition and competed 12 routines over the Elite Canada weekend. Manitoba Junior, Alexys Purdie had an outstanding hoop routine in qualification and competed in the hoop final on Sunday.
Kaedyn and Samantha will both directly qualify for the 2017 Canadian Championships, which will be hosted by Rhythmic Gymnastics Alberta at the Kinsmen Centre in Edmonton, AB from May 17-21. All National Stream gymnasts will have a second opportunity to qualify for the Canadian Championships at the 2017 Western Regional Championships in Edmonton, Alberta.
Elite Canada 2017
On March 16 – 19, The Kalev Estienne RG Club will host Canada’s top gymnasts at the Markham Pan Am Centre, in Markham, Ontario. Elite Canada is one of the primary national competitions which will bring together the top athletes from across Canada from the novice, junior, and senior categories. Gymnasts in the junior and senior categories will seek qualification for High Performance status, which gives them the right to compete in those categories at Canadian Championships and to be eligible to be considered for national teams and potential international competitions.

Large Group Choreography Workshop
On March 5th, sixteen coaches from Rhythmic Gymnastics and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics attended a Large Group Choreography workshop at the Sports for Life Centre. Thank you to Manitoba Fusion Choreographers Tracy Sterdan and Tanya Manastersky for instructing the session!
