Special Olympics Manitoba (SOM) provides sport for Manitobans with an intellectual disability. We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated volunteers from Winnipeg and Westman Regions to help coach our athletes in Rhythmic Gymnastics from October to May. SOM benefits greatly from the presence of volunteers within our programs, and in turn, our volunteers gain valuable transferrable skills and experience, while knowing they are making a difference in their communities and having fun! Apply to become a volunteer TODAY! No experience required and training is provided. Must be able to commit 1 to 2 hours once a week and some weekends for competitions. GCG held their Achievement Gala for the many deserving individuals who promote gymnastics in Canada. Mario Lam, developer of the scripting and scoring programs used by rhythmic gymnasts across Canada, was the recipient of the Evelyn Koop Rhythmic Gymnastics award.
Evelyn Koop, major founder of rhythmic gymnastics in Canada, was honoured as a Gymnastics Canada Life Member.
The 2012 Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Group was recognized for being the first group from Canada to qualify for the Olympics. Congratulations to all the award recipients, and a special congratulations to Manitoban Zdravka Tchonkova, coach of the 2012 Olympic Group.
